My husband Mohd Ikhram Merican was almost a victim of snatch thieves this morning at around 10am right in front of Lincoln University College in SS25. He was waiting for a colleague and a motorcyclist got a little too close to him. The thief grabbed his arm to get his mobile phone. He managed the yank his hand away. Unfortunately, he wasn't able to get the license plate no. The thief was a teenage boy riding a Yamaha bike with an accomplice riding another bike not far behind him. They sped off. I hope that everyone walking around the area will be careful and vigilant.

Hilux gang strikes in Kampar, shoots and injures shopkeeper, son

The Star 15/7/13

IPOH: The Hilux gang struck in Kampar near here, shooting and injuring a shopkeeper and his son but failed to get away with his Toyota Hilux vehicle.

The gang of three, however, succeeded in driving off with another Hilux vehicle 30 minutes later by bundling the owner out of the car and driving off in it.

Police managed to arrest one of the gang members at a road block later.

The 51-year-old shopkeeper and his son, 13, were shot in the stomach and thigh respectively after the suspects rushed into his house in Taman Sejahtera at about 8.30pm on Sunday.

Perak deputy police chief Datuk A. Paramasivam said the victim, his wife and two sons were in the living room when the three men in ski-masks and armed with machetes and a pistol entered their house.

The victim's Toyota Hilux four-wheel drive was believed to be their main target. The group took mobile phones, identity cards, bank and cheque books from the house and was about to leave in the victim's Hilux.

"As one of the suspects was starting the engine when the victim launched an attack with a machete. But another suspect opened fire hitting the victim in the stomach and his son in the thigh," Paramasivam said.

The suspects left without the Hilux and escaped in their own getaway car, a dark-colored Proton Perdana.

Barely 30 minutes later, they robbed another Hilux owner of his vehicle, mobile phones, gold chain, pendant and RM6,000 in cash.

"They pulled the man, 31, from the Hilux and sped off in it while one of the suspects followed in the Perdana," Paramasivam said. The victim was unharmed.

Two hours later, however, the suspect driving the Perdana car was captured at a police road block at Jalan Ayer Kuning, Tapah. Documents and valuables belonging to the first victim were found in the car which was reported stolen at Bukit Puchong recently.

Paramasivam said the 33-year-old suspect from Taman Orkid, Teluk Intan was warded at a hospital with leg and head injuries. He has prior criminal records.

The group is believed to be involved in 10 cases of Hilux four-wheel drive thefts.

"We have identified the other two suspects still at large, they're from Perak. We urge anyone with related information to contact the police station," Paramasivam said.

On Sunday 14th July 2pm my friend with her friend went to Restaurant Lai Lai for lunch. So she ordered everything and having it till a guy walking pass her one time and she thought passer by and the guy came towards her place with a gun pointing at her and say "DON'T SHOUT, GIVE ME YOUR CASH & ATM CARD" So my friend got no choice to give him and he then ask for the ATM PASSWORD. For sure won't give the correct password. After the password is given the guy walk away and get in to the car. If not mistaken it's a BMW.

Nearby there's a MAYBANK, so my friend affraid that the robber will come back and ask for the password or maybe hurt her. So she just go off and pass a name card to the owner of the shop in order to pay later. After a period she go back and check the CCTV but it's not on that particular spot that she's at.

We suspect that their motive is to break the glass; unlock the door; hop into the car and demand for valuables+hurt you while you are stuck in the jam. (That's pretty obvious cus the handbag is not visible at all!)

The optimum ratio of policemen to population recommended by the INTERPOL is 1:250 which means one policeman is responsible for looking after 250 residents. However, as of today in Petaling Jaya, the ratio stands at 1:470 which means one policeman is looking after 470 residents! This shows that we are in desperate need of twice the amount of police force in order to fight crime. Join this fight, say you're in. More Police, Safer

Man takes on Robbers, thinking Pistol was Fake

Man takes on Robbers, thinking Pistol was Fake

GURUN : A senior citizen took on a pistol-toting robber and an accomplice at his home in Taman Seri Jerai 2 here.

At about 7.40pm on Wednesday, T. Subramaniam, 62, was reading a newspaper at home while his wife P. Parvathy, 60, and grandchild Ham Raj Kumar, 16, were inside.

As Parvathy went out to push her son’s motorcycle from the porch, two men confronted her with a pistol and demanded that she surrendered her valuables.

The ensuing commotion attract-ed Subramaniam’s attention and he walked up to the gun-toting robber.

“When I edged closer, the robber warned me that he had a pistol and will not hesitate to shoot,” said Subramaniam, who proceeded to challenge the robber, as he thought the gun was fake.

In apparent panic, the robber fired a shot which missed Subramaniam and hit the ceiling.

The robbers then fled, but not before grabbing a RM3,000 gold chain worn by Parvathy.

Police who arrived at the scene told Subramaniam the pistol was real as they found a spent cartridge.

State CID chief Asst Comm Mohd Nashir Ya said police would carry out investigations under Section 3 of the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act 1971.

Teen girl a scout for clinic robbers

By NICHOLAS CHENG and SIMON KHOO
newsdesk@thestar.com.my

KUALA LUMPUR: A teenage girl was part of a gang of robbers which preyed on polyclinics when it wasn’t hitting restaurants, spas, furniture shops and sundry stores.

She would be inside the clinic, pretending to be in line to see the doctor. But she would actually be taking note of wealthy patients while making sure the place wasn’t too crowded.

When she was satisfied with conditions, she would signal the rest of the gang and the men would storm in, brandishing parang and demanding cash and valuables.

Police said the gang was responsible for at least 14 robberies in Kajang, Cheras and Seremban in the last three months.

The gang’s successful streak ended when one of them was shot dead by a Tan Sri during a botched robbery at a polyclinic in Taman Pertama, Cheras, at about 10pm last Friday.

The rest of the gang members had managed to flee after their accomplice collapsed but police tracked them down to their flat in Bandar Mahkota Cheras at about 1.30am yesterday.

Three male suspects, aged 22, 23 and 30, and a girl, 17, were arrested.

Police found two parang, a knife, masks, break-in tools, mobile phones, a laptop and a tablet computer inside the flat.

The raiding party also recovered more than RM5,000 in cash and valuables, as well as three cars – a Proton Iswara, Perodua MyVi and Honda City.

Selangor acting police chief Senior Asst Comm Datuk A. Thaiveegan said the four had no criminal record.

“We believe they were involved in the Cheras polyclinic case. Initial investigations suggest they belong to the same group linked to the robber who was shot dead,” he said.

He said the four would be remanded until Monday and were being investigated under Section 395 and 397 of the Penal Code for robbery.

Police believe another seven gang members are still at large.

Pahang Chinese Chamber of Commerce chairman Tan Sri Lam Kam Sang, 68, had shot dead the 21-year-old when the robber attacked him with a parang.

Lam, who heard about the arrests, congratulated the police yesterday.

“I will give my full cooperation if my assistance is needed to identify the suspects.”

GEORGE TOWN: A Penang Municipal Council worker has claimed trial at a Sessions Court to snatching the bag of a Chinese national in Love Lane here on July 2.

Abdul Waris Abdul Aziz, 32, from Air Itam, denied that he committed the offence at around 9.19pm at the roadside of Love Lane.

Sessions judge Khairul Anuar Abdul Halim set bail at RM10,000 in one surety.

The accused was not represented by counsel while DPP Maziyah Mansor prosecuted.

It was reported that a suspect was caught snatching the bag from Dai Qi, 40, a tourist from China just as her husband Luo Yong, also 40, was taking a photograph of her.

BENTONG: Police launched a manhunt for the two men, wearing full-face helmets, who went on a rampage at a motorcycle shop in Jalan Besar, Karak on Friday slashing three people, including the owner, before escaping with an undisclosed amount of cash.

The robbers armed with parang also rode away with a brand new Yamaha 125Z motorcycle worth RM8,000 but it stalled less than 1km away due to lack of fuel.

They then abandoned the machine near the back of a shopping mall before hijacking another motorcycle belonging to a woman at knifepoint.

A passer-by who rushed over to aid the terrified woman was slashed by the robbers who then rode away with it heading towards Mempaga.

Deputy OCPD Deputy Supt Wan Azharudin Wan Ismail said the incident took place at about 3.15pm on Friday when the two robbers barged in and held up the owner and four workers.

It is learnt the workers put up a fight in which the robbers started slashing, which resulted in them being attacked by the workers with sticks.

They managed to escape with some cash belonging to a worker and from the cash register.

The owner, aged 64, was slashed on her neck when she refused to open the safe deposit box.

She suffered a 10cm long gash and was warded at the Bentong Hospital for further observation after receiving initial treatment at the Karak health clinic.

Two of her workers, aged 24 and 46, also suffered cuts on their neck and chest in the ensuing fight.

DSP Wan Azharudin urged those with information to contact the nearest police station.

Witnessed an attempted robbery around 10pm just now. Was coming back from grocery shopping with husband, then as we were turning to the junction to go to 14/52 lane in pj, saw 3 bikes going in the same direction ahead of us. Husband thought it was the patrolling police, but my gut tells me something else. As we drove towards 14/52, suddenly those same bikes were driving back towards us, riders looked panicky and in a haste. Then in front of us a neighbor's car was in stationary mode with some of the bikers still around the car, in front of his/her house, blaring the honk like crazy, the gate was open with the maid holding a stick and an occupant of the house was there with their 3 dogs. When the drove towards us, I was so terriers that they would turn their attention to us. But luckily they passed us by. we drove down the lane but decided against going in to our house (it's quite a hilly area, it'll take a while just to get in). We also called the police to inform them of the situation. While waiting, So we kept on driving around the area, passed by Sri Aman school, and kept a look out. We also stopped and advise this one uncle waiting outside his house in 14/45 I think with his alphard to be watchful...as we drove back towards Sri Aman school road to get to our house, the same bikers were there...riding the opposite direction. I tried to get a good look at the plate numbers, unfortunately, ALL three bikes had their tail light off. There were 6 of them btw and all Malays. Then as we drove around again, we bumped into the patrol car we called for and gave some descriptions of the bikers. So they made their rounds just to be sure. So one thing for sure, I think these bikers will definitely try their luck again some other day. So folks around this area, please be mindful when u slow down or opening the gates. Most of them are opportunists. Especially around that hour. They know alot of people just came back from dinner, work or in ramadhan, perhaps coming back from tarawih. So do be careful!!

Killed for jumping a red light?

[reported by Free Malaysia Today]

KUALA LUMPUR: An alleged traffic offender died last week after he was arrested and manhandled by four police officers in Medan Imbi, Puchong MP Gobind Singh Deo told a press conference today.

Gobind said the assault occurred at a restaurant and he had seen a video recording of it that was shot by a patron.

A report in China Press quoted police sources as saying that the victim, 53-year-old Chong Foo Ming, was foaming at the mouth after he was restrained and handcuffed. The report said police tried to flag him down after he had beaten a red light, but he sped off.

Gobind condemned the police action, saying the violence was unnecessary.

“Mr Chong was roughened up by a group of police officers,” he said. “After he was handcuffed, he was forced to lay down facing the ground . And then one of the police officers sat on top of him.

“If he had beaten a red light, why the need to apprehend him in that way?”

It is learnt that the policemen contacted an ambulance after noticing that Chong was foaming at the mouth. But he was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.

Gobind said police had used excessive force and called for a thorough investigation.

Initial police reports said Chong died of a heart failure, but according to his daughter Doriss, the hospital found no heart complications or internal injuries.

“We demand an answer from the police,” Gobind said. “This victim was a very healthy man. This is confirmed by the hospital. The police cannot expect the family to sit back doing nothing. An explanation is needed.”

He said he would write to the Inspector General of Police today.

Gobind acknowledged that the cause of death was still uncertain.

“We are waiting for the chemist’s report,” he said. “First they claimed it was a heart attack, which was wrong. There was nothing wrong with the victim’s heart. We are waiting for a second opinion before we can confirm the cause of death.”

Living in Fear at Home

OH ING YEEN gives a first-hand account of being a burglary victim.

AS I was about to leave work for home, I suddenly received a text from my father, “Do not come home now”.

It got me worried but instinct told me I should not call him.

After waiting for about 15 minutes, I finally received a call from my father saying that five armed robbers had broken into my house.

My family members locked themselves in a room upstairs for a long time, and did not dare leave for a long time, fearing that the robbers might still be in the house.

When I finally got home, I saw the house was messy but thankfully my family was not harmed.

The security guard for our neighbourhood only came by about an hour later.

We were curious how the robbers entered the neighbourhood as there was only one access point to the area and it was manned by guards.

We got our answer as we drove out of the neighbourhood to check into a hotel for the night. We were shocked and angry to see one of the guards on duty sleeping at the guard post!

This is the second time my house has been broken into but the first incident occurred when no one was at home.

Once, during the wee hours of the morning, my father heard a scream and went out to look as he thought my neighbour was in trouble.

A female foreigner tried to barge into our house, claiming that “someone was coming to get her”.

My father refused to let her in and said he could help her to call the police instead.

He also tried to get help from one of the guards who passed by our house on his motorcycle but the guard sped off instead.

We are one of the few residents who pay for security every month and have been paying for years.

After these break-ins, I do not see the point of having our roads barricaded and paying RM70 per month.

I have heard of some neighbourhoods that saw a drop in break-ins after employing guards. It is just unfortunate that ours is not one of them.

Eateries bite the bullet and get armed guards
The Star 3/7/13

PETALING JAYA: After a spate of robberies at eateries, even restaurants have resorted to hiring armed guards.

South Sea Seafood Restaurant in Kampung Baru Subang is one such restaurant, which has invested in extra security to provide customers peace of mind as they eat in the premises.

“It is an unusual and costly move for a restaurant but we feel that prevention is better than cure.

“We had heard about restaurants being targeted by robbers so we decided to engage an armed guard a month ago,” said restaurant owner Terence Wong yesterday.

Wong, 42, said his customers admitted feeling more secure and confident when dining at the restaurant with an armed guard around.

The failure to hire of such armed guards, however, proved costly for the owners of the Lala Chong Seafood Restaurant which has two outlets.

Robbers armed with parang hit its Ara Damansara outlet in April.

Manager Wong Thian Foh, 35, said the company had security personnel for its Kayu Ara restaurant since 2008 but felt the one in Ara Damansara was secure enough because it was located in a posh neighbourhood.

“But the Ara Damansara restaurant ended up being an easy target for robbers,” he said.

Since the incident, more security guards have been hired for both restaurants.

“We are also looking at arming all our security guards in spite of the added costs,” he said.

In early June, several restaurants in Pudu and Cheras suffered a similar fate.

In one case, eight parang-wielding men robbed customers and the restaurant owner of RM24,000 and mobile phones at 4am.

China cop foils snatch theft bid

GEORGE TOWN: The fight against crime never takes a break – as shown by a policeman on holiday here from China who helped catch a snatch thief.

Luo Yong, 40, was taking a photograph of his wife, Dai Qi, strolling along the tourist spot Love Lane when a motorcyclist came from behind and grabbed her handbag.

He immediately pounced on the man and shoved him off his vehicle during the 9.30pm incident on Tuesday.

Luo overpowered the man, a Penang Municipal Council worker who was still wearing a council T-shirt, before passers-by and traders came to help.

The crimefighter, who suffered light injuries on his legs, said he did not hesitate to pounce on the man when he saw him snatch the handbag.

“In my mind, I was only thinking that our holiday would have been over if we lost the bag. It contained our passports, cash, credit cards and driving licences,” said Luo, who also gave the thumbs-up to the local police for arriving at the scene within three minutes.

He said he remained undaunted by the incident, adding that “he would not be frightened”.

“In fact, we are touched by the warmth and hospitality of the police and the people here. I will be coming back here again,” he said.

Luo’s photograph of the man about to snatch his wife’s bag is believed to be the first of its kind here.

The couple, who was on a holiday with their 10-year-old son from Chengdu, was on their way to their hotel in Penang Road after having dinner in Chulia Street when the snatch theft happened.

Dai, 40, is also in the police force. The family has since left for Langkawi.

Meanwhile, George Town OCPD Asst Comm Gan Kong Meng said the 31-year-old suspect in the case tested positive for morphine.

“We will be presenting a letter of commendation to Luo for his daring and courageous act. We will pass the letter to the Chinese Embassy,” he said yesterday.

KUALA LUMPUR: A Tan Sri undergoing a medical check up at a clinic in Cheras shot dead a parang-wielding man who had tried to slash him during a botched robbery attempt late Thursday. During the 10pm incident, three men barged into the clinic and demanded that everyone in the clinic hand over their valuables and cash.

When one of the robbers pointed a parang at the Tan Sri, who is in his 50s and from Pahang, he produced a gun and told the suspects to leave or he would shoot.

Instead, the robbers, ticked off at the sight of the firearm, lunged and attacked the Tan Sri, who then fired multiple shots, killing one of them. Cheras OCPD Assistant Commissoner of Police (ACP) Mohan Singh said the men then fled the clinic located at Jalan 2/90 in Taman Pertama.

"We found one of them dead some 30m away, with gunshots in his knee, stomach and buttocks."

The body of the dead suspect, believed to be in his late 20s, was sent to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital for a post mortem.

"We do not know if any of the others who fled were injured," ACP Mohan said.

He said the three suspects had entered the clinic and threatened the patients and staff, while an accomplice waited outside.

"The Tan Sri sustained slight abrasions on his stomach, as one of the robbers had tried to slash him with a parang," he said.

Police recovered a knife at the scene and a Nissan car parked outside the clinic, which was stolen in another clinic robbery that occurred in Taman Mahkota Batu 9, Kajang on Wednesday.

ACP Mohan said this indicated that the robbers were also connected with the earlier case.

He said the Tan Sri's gun was retained by the police for investigations, adding that he had a licence to carry the firearm.
The case is being investigated under Section 395 and 397 of the Penal Code for gang robbery.

Meanwhile, clinic nurse Litya Gunasegaran, 24 said there were seven patients and four staff members, including a doctor, at the time of the incident.

"They burst in and everyone got a shock. One of them was carrying a parang and held it to people's necks.

"He said 'kasi wang!' (give money)," said Litya, adding that the men were dressed in shirts and shorts, and weren't wearing masks.

She said they went to each person and demanded their handphones, wallets, watches and jewellery.

"They took my necklace and went to another person, that's when I heard the shots," she said, adding that the Tan Sri was a regular patient at the clinic.

但我还是要感谢神,钱财上的损失事小,今天的我还是完好无缺的,thanks for the blessing of Jesus。

BALIK PULAU: Two men collecting durians from an orchard in Bukit Genting here stumbled upon an unidentified body with long hair and fair complexion, clad in a short dress and underwear.

She is believed to have been murdered.

Initial police investigations found that the woman could have been killed elsewhere before her body was thrown from the road and landed on the slope in the orchard.

Orchard workers Chin Say Hong, 53, and Fong Zi Hong, 21, said they found the body at about 8.30am yesterday, and at first thought it was a mannequin.

They alerted an undertaker who lived nearby, who then informed the police.

Another nearby resident placed a banana leaf over the body.

Penang CID chief Senior Asst Comm Mazlan Kesah said the woman, estimated to be in her 30s, could be a Chinese national as the body was found with no BCG inoculation mark on her arm.

“We also did not find any documents on her. Based on our findings, we believe the victim could have been thrown from the main road. The body was found lodged against a fence.

“There were blood stains on the guardrail of the road above the slope,” he said yesterday.

“We also urge those with missing family members to go to the nearest police station,” he added.

Penang Hospital senior consultant forensic pathologist Datuk Dr Bhupinder Singh said the woman, who was 165cm tall, had died of air embolism.

He said a post-mortem found multiple stab and slash wounds in the neck and on the back of the head, adding that there was no suspicion of sexual assault.

A MAN is now RM36,000 poorer after his bride-to-be conned him, reported Harian Metro.

The 39-year-old housing contractor had never met the 25-year-old and only knew her through the Internet for six months, the report said.

The woman, whom he met via an online social networking site, claimed to be a trainee doctor who recently graduated from a local university in Penang.

She also claimed to be an orphan and was in financial difficulties.

“She made various promises, including her readiness to be my wife.

“That got me concerned and I also felt sorry for her, what more after she told me that her parents had just passed away,” he told the daily.

According to the report, the woman SMSed him on the first day of their online encounter and asked for RM30 as she was short of money.

“A few days later, she said she had some family problems in the village and asked for RM1,000 which I banked in,” he added.

The amount, the report stated, grew over time from RM2,000 right up to RM20,000 purportedly to build a house in the village with promises that the money would be returned once she started working.

“I deposited the money without any suspicion.

“Overall, I deposited RM36,000 into three different accounts involving 64 transactions,” he told the tabloid.

The woman then ignored his calls and later sent him a SMS to state that everything was a lie.

“I was shocked to receive the SMS. I was conned of RM36,000,” he told the daily after lodging a police report in Alor Gajah.

Shopping Cart "cartjacked" in Mydin USJ Subang

Shopping Cart got Hijacked....Cartjacked ?? Mad Mad World

Mydin, USJ Subang
8 July 2013
Morning

My dad did some grocery/supermarket shopping and after paying proceeded to gift redemption counter. In just split seconds, he turned towards his trolley and no where to be seen.

He looked around but no unattended trolley to be seen. He alerted a security guard closeby. He asked a couple of questions like what are obvious purchases easily detectable. Dad said right on top, a crate of eggs and 2 big bags of rice on the side.

The security walkie talkied others and meantime they went all around searching and even to the car park.

Then a security guard alerted a trolley found unattended closeby entrance. Dad verified it was his. Most likely, the person noticed that security on the lookout and decided to abandon the trolley there.

So please do not take things for granted as anything can happen in just split seconds...

PJ Utara MP Weighs in on Crime & Emergency Ordinance.

Have we been lied to? What is the TRUTH?

Emergency powers + police = high crime by cops’ own maths
[Source - Malaysian Insider]

Crime was already on the rise and seemingly unstoppable when the Emergency Ordinance (EO) was in place, said DAP National Publicity secretary Tony Pua.

As such, he questioned the police rationale for blaming the repeal of the EO in 2011 as the sole cause of rising crime in the country, particularly in urban areas.

"The Malaysian crime index was rising rapidly from 2003 to 2008. At its peak, the crime rate rose by 34 per cent from 2004 to 2007. During this period, the EO was at the authorities' disposal and yet, crime was seemingly unstoppable," Pua said.

He further questioned if the repeal of the EO had become the convenient "whipping boy" for the police to cover up the lack of professionalism and competence in solving crime cases as well as in preventing crimes.

"They have yet to present a shred of evidence that the recent spate of rising crime is due to hardened criminals released from the Simpang Renggam detention centre. It does not appear that the police have caught anyone involved in the recent spate of armed robberies which could possibly point to the repeal of the EO as being the cause," Pua added.

He said that after the launch of the "Reducing Crime" National Key Result Area (NKRA) in 2009, the official crime index has dropped significantly, from 209,417 in 2009 to 157,891 in 2011, according to the government.

"This was attributed to the Government Transformation Programme (GTP) which allowed greater allocation of resources to patrolling and fighting street crimes.

"The achievement, if true, was never ever attributed by the police to the increased use of the EO to detain alleged criminals without trial," Pua said.

He added that while the accuracy of the police crime index was questionable, the police themselves had presented that crime level in 2012 was the lowest in a decade at 145,891 or a decline of 7.6 per cent from 2011.

"Most tellingly, the decline, according to the police’s own statistics, was achieved despite the fact that the EO was repealed during the year," Pua summed up. - July 9, 2013.
