Snatch Thieves are Cops!

Despite lodging a police report on the matter on July 3, B Saravanan claims that the police have yet to take action against the errant police officers.

PETALING JAYA: A lorry driver lodged a police report last month claiming that one of the snatch thieves he caught red handed was none other than a police officer.

In the report lodged at the Petaling Jaya district police headquarters on July 3, B Saravanan, 27, said that he was going out to lunch outside his office at Taman Mayang Jaya on that day, when he saw two men on a motorcycle trying to snatch a gold necklace from a foreign national.

“It was about 12 pm. I was going for lunch when I saw the thieves on a Yamaha LC bike attempting to snatch a necklace from an Indonesian lady.

“I immediately drove to the scene and rammed my car on their motorcycle, causing the duo to fall on the street,” said Saravanan.

He said that he got down from his car to face the thieves, getting into a scuffle with them. Unfortunately, the perpetrators overwhelmed him and even manage to snatch his gold chain.

Adding that he tried his level best to apprehend them, Saravanan decided to back off as one started throwing stones at his car while the other threatened him with a knife.

Saravanan subsequently called up the police, who later arrived at the area to take pictures of the crime scene.

Suspects turn out to be policemen

“At 1pm, one Corporal Zamrus called me up to Kelana Jaya police station, asking my assistance to identify the thieves, which I did about three hours later.

“I managed to identify both men during the identification parade. To my shock, Zamrus told me that one of the suspects was a police officer,” alleged Saravanan in the report.

When contacted today Saravanan said that both suspects were indeed police officers. Saravanan further claimed that the investigating officer, known as Inspector Hasbullah, tried to talk him out of lodging a police report.

“I saw them both walking in and out of the Kelana Jaya police station together. So when I got to know that the suspects were officers from the same station, I decided to lodge the report at the PJ police headquarters instead,” said Saravanan.

He added that he was called to the Kelana Jaya police station for a second time on July 19 for another identification parade.

“I identified them again but after that I received no information from the Kelana Jaya police station on the status of the investigation,” said Saravanan.

However FMT learned today evening that Saravanan has been asked to be present at the Kelana Jaya police station to give a statement later tonight.

No comment from district chief

A police source meanwhile told FMT that he has yet to receive any updates regarding the status of the two police officers.

“I am not sure if they have been transferred to another desk or department or they have been suspended from the force. They are attached to a different police station thus I did not get any updates regarding their status,” the source said.

Meanwhile, Petaling Jaya district police chief, Arjunaidi Mohamed when contacted refused to comment on the matter.

“You have to check with the Selangor police headquarters. I can’t comment on this,” he said briefly.

PETALING JAYA: A group of teenagers stopped two thieves from hauling away stolen goods after they chased them down into a drain in their neighbourhood.

Lim Hock Wei, Wendell Yeo Guo Wai, Lim Eng Yew, Liew Chun Lap, all 17, and Low Chan Yin, 18, were at a mall here at 4pm on Saturday when they noticed a commotion where mall security guards were involved.

“We had just returned from supporting our friends at a competition and were having lunch. We saw the guards talking on their radios and pointing at two men who were walking across the road calmly but broke into a sprint after they reached the gate into the neighbourhood compound.

“We got suspicious and decided to chase after them,” said Hock Wei.

He said the suspects were holding plastic bags filled with clothes.

The SMK Bandar Utama 4 students then split up and ran after the suspects, who had by then reached an alley.

“I saw one of the guys and locked eyes with him. He immediately started running away and we shouted and chased after them,” said Wendell.

He said the pair tried to hide in a drain outside a house in Bandar Utama 4/9 but were cornered by the students and other residents.

“We shouted ‘Keluar! (Come out)’ and tried to force them out. Some of my other friends ran to get the mall security guards to come over.”

The thieves were apprehended by security personnel and Rela officers at 4.30pm.

A source said the two men pepper-sprayed three guards stationed at a shopping centre while making their getaway.

Details of the incident were posted on the PJ Community Alert Facebook page and went viral, with Netizens hailing the boys as heroes.

The boys downplayed their part in the entire incident.

“We are basically aware of crime in our area and just wanted to stop one that we saw,” Wendell said.

Former air steward, two Nepal nationals get life in prison for kidnapping

Former air steward, two Nepal nationals get life in prison for kidnapping
By NURBAITI HAMDAN

SHAH ALAM: Three men, including a former air steward, were sentenced to life in prison by a High Court here after they pleaded guilty to abducting a security company CEO two years ago.

C. Rudhra, 39, and Nepal nationals R. Roshan, 32, and T. Ramesh, 30, escaped the death penalty when Justice Abdul Alim Abdullah handed down a lifetime imprisonment sentence instead.

"The victim was not injured. The gold (ransom) has been recovered and returned to the victim's family," said the judge prior to sentencing on Friday.

The men admitted to abducting A. Kanapathy, 66, at an alley next to Kedai Makanan Laut Pulau Ketam, Persiaran Raja Muda Musa, Port Klang in Klang at about 11.30am on March 7, 2011, with intention to obtain a ransom of 10kg in gold.

They were first charged at a Klang Magistrate's Court on March 22, 2011, and the case was subsequently transferred to the High Court.

The higher court then ruled there was a prima facie case against the men and ordered them to enter their defence where they gave statements from the dock.

However, they changed their plea and admitted guilt before the defence closed its case.

They apologised to the court for the crime, during mitigation.

In their statements during the trial, the court was told that Rudhra quit his job at a local airline company in 2011 before opening his security business.

Prior to the crime, Rudhra had hired Roshan to train four guard dogs while Ramesh worked at an eatery.

The court also heard that the victim was walking from a carpark to his office at Strikeforce Security Sdn Bhd when he was tasered by a man and bundled into a car.

One of the victim's family members threw a bag filled with gold over a bridge during the ransom drop-off.

The victim was released with his head covered and hands tied.

He managed to untie his hands and sought help at a petrol station.

A team of policemen captured the three men two days after the incident.

Rudhra was represented by lawyers Haresh Mahadevan and Ramzani Idris. Roshan was represented by lawyer Jayamurugan Vadivelu while Ramesh was represented by K. A. Ramu.

DPP Harris Ong Mohd Jeffrey Ong prosecuted.

When a female shoplifter decided to help herself to a few pieces of clothing at a store in a shopping centre in China, she may have prepared herself over the possibility of getting caught but certainly not having her hair cut off by the furious shopkeeper.

According to a behindblondiepark report, Sun Lu was in her store in the city of Wenzhou when she decided to keep close tabs on a woman who was behaving suspiciously.

Previously, she had already fell prey to looters who raided her store of clothes worth hundreds of dollars.

The 32-year-old shopkeeper's hunch proved right when she caught the woman, identifed by media reports as Li Wu, packing clothes into her bag, and immediately pinned her to the ground.

Grabbing a pair of scissors, Sun proceeded to chop off locks of her hair as a neighbouring shop owner kept her pinned down, before they called the police.

Speaking to reporters, Sun said: "I watch so many people everyday, so I can tell thieves from others easily.

"When I noticed the woman sneaking around in the shopping mall, I knew she was up to no good.

"So, when she came into my shop, I was alert and finally caught her in the act." According to a behindblondiepark report, Sun Lu was in her store in the city of Wenzhou when she decided to keep close tabs on a woman who was behaving suspiciously.
