JOHOR BARU: A group of thieves set a house on fire at Taman Sri Putri in Skudai in a bid to eliminate any trace of evidence.

It is learnt that they carted away over RM90,000 in jewellery and cash that were kept in the house before setting it on fire at about 4pm on Thursday.

Retiree Poh Qing Fei, 60, said that he, his ex-wife and son were not at home when the thieves struck.

“I was out of town, visiting my brother in Muar and my ex-wife was out shopping at that time,” he said, adding that his son was at work.

Poh said he was informed of the incident yesterday by his younger brother, who lived nearby.

“When I arrived home, I was shocked to see the inside of my house almost completely burnt.’

“Following inspection, we realised that our jewellery worth about RM50,000 were stolen,” he said.

Johor Baru North deputy OCPD Supt Beh Eng Lai said police were investigating the case.

“We believe that the thieves had burnt the house just to cover up their act,” he said.

Supt Beh said the case had been classified as burglary, besides causing mischief by fire or explosive substance with intent to destroy a house under the Penal Code.

Theft Cineleisure, Mutiara Damansara

Theft
Cineleisure, Mutiara Damansara

shared by Christine Chee

Thanks to Jessie Seng for sharing her experience.

I feel I need to share mine too so that ladies are aware and be forewarned.

I used to read in the papers of people having this experience which is commonly called “pukau”.
This is what happened and it was at the Arcade at Cineleisure, E-Curve some time ago (before Ikano was named IPC).
I send my son for his music lesson and usually stay on for a movie. We had spare time about half hour before the movie start so we stopped by the arcade for some games. There weren’t many people. My son and his friend were playing the shooting game, the game machines being arranged in a row along the sides of the wall while I sat on a stool opposite them playing the ‘jewel matching’ game. I was not feeling well that evening having cough and fever, about 7pm and had taken my dosage of anti-biotics (this could have contributed to the weakened sense to what was about to happened).

My son called to me for additional coins to continue to play and our conversation may have attracted or alerted the ‘thief/con’ or whatever as I did not see him.

I had my handbag with the sling still on my shoulder and the bag resting on my lap as I played seated and my purse held with my left hand resting on the bag. In a moment, I smelled something like a mix of prayer incense, jasmine and perfume. It smelled very strong and I had the mind to think that how come there is this type of smell in this place.

Next moment, it was time to go and I went for my purse to take the movie tickets out and I could not find my purse. No where at all. Well, the hoolabaloo of searching and reporting followed.

For those who analyse that “how come the ‘smell’ does not affect the perpetrator” – that’s because it is being used by them to be directed to a “victim” – a set intention.
One cannot answer what one cannot comprehend.

I think Jessie Seng was very smart and to have acted bravely.

I tell myself and my friends to be alert and if you smell something like this, to look around and move out. And I’m sharing here as I want as many ladies to know and be aware. Not to be fearful and avoid your activities but be vigilant and know that these type of ‘crime method’ exist.

Thief Walk In and Took Victims Handbag... Jun 23, 2013 6:00pm

Thief Walk In and Took Victims Handbag...
Theft happened in Jalan Austin Heights 3/2, Taman Mount Austin, Johor bahru. Quicker than you can believe.

Now that we know how they operate, we should be aware of our surroundings at all times and always keep our valuables as close to us as possible and make sure they aren't easily an arms reach away for a thief!

Watch and leave your comments.

Three Including Woman Suspected Of Stealing Scrap Metal Assaulted By Villagers

KUANTAN, June 18 (Bernama) -- Three people including a woman, who were suspected to have stolen scrap metal, were hurt after they were assaulted by residents at Felda Panching Utara here, Monday night.

Kuantan deputy police chief Supt Aziz Ahmad said the suspects, aged 20 to 26, were allegedly behaving suspiciously in a Perodua Kancil car at the Felda area in the incident at 8pm.

"The residents chased the suspects' car into a lane in the Felda scheme and surrounded them before setting upon all three.

"Police rushed to the scene after being tipped off and took the three suspects to the Panching Police Station. Half-an-hour later, about 100 people came to the station to assault the suspects but we prevented them from doing so," he told reporters here today.

He said police had received a report from a resident in the village yesterday at 5.30pm that the store at his house was broken into by thieves and a couple of items were missing.

He said all the suspects, who had past records for stealing, were sent to the Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital. Police found the missing items in the car.

Married Couple Detained For Theft At Surau

Married Couple Detained For Theft At Surau

SHAH ALAM, June 6 (Bernama) -- A man and his wife, believed to have frequented houses of worships to steal, were detained at their rented house in Kampung Bukit Badong, Bestari Jaya, Kuala Selangor near here yesterday.

Selangor Criminal Investigation Department head SAC Adnan Abdullah said the couple were arrested at 2.30pm following a report by a 23-year-old student who lost her bag at a surau of a shopping complex at Bandar Bukit Raja, Klang, last May 11.

"The student had left the bag on a prayer mat to perform the ablution and then found it missing," he told a media conference here today.

The bag contained RM200, personal documents, handphone and her car key.

He said the man, aged 28, and his 26-year-old wife had a four-year-old adopted daughter.

Police searched the house and found several items, including handphones, handbags and Touch n Go cards, believed to have been stolen, he added.

He said police also believed that the couple had sold some of the stolen items, and also destroyed, by burning, items like credit cards, at two locations in the vicinity of their house.

Following their arrest, police believed they had been able to resolve 15 cases of theft reported in Selangor, especially in surau at bus and taxi terminals and shopping complexes.

Adnan said police had obtained an order to remand the couple June 9 for investigation.

He urged those who had become victims of theft at surau in Selangor to contact investigating officer Inspector Zulkifli Mohd at 013-3546379.

In another development, Adnan said police were looking for a Pakistani lorry driver, identified as Waqas Ul Hussan @ Vicky, in his 30s, whose last known address was at Desa Lembah Permai in Ampang, to assist investigation into the murder of an American citizen at Jalan Ampang, Kuala Lumpur last May 4.

Those with information on him are urged to contact ASP A.Wiswannadan at 012-3198918 or 03-42897222 ext 7312, he added.

He said police had detained seven Pakistani men, aged between 24 and 58, to facilitate investigation into the case.

The body of the American man, David James Ginter, 62, was found, with the legs and hands tied and neck strangled with the wire of a telephone charger by a neighbour in the house.
