Residents of Taman Sri Rampai in Wangsa Maju were shocked when a couple of fireworks stalls exploded early in the morning on August 14.
The incident, which was said to have occurred near the National Registration Department (JPN) office along Jalan 34/26 after 2am, was recorded by someone who happened to be passing the area at the time.
The four and a half minute video went viral on the Internet, with many eyewitnesses commenting on the video.
Police officers from the Wangsa Maju police station said the incident was currently being investigated, although they could not confirm the cause.
Based on comments from people who witnessed the incident, they claimed that a group on eight motorcycles had allegedly started a fire at the stalls, setting off all the fireworks.
A spokesman from the Setapak Fire and Rescue Deparment confirmed the incident but could not provide further details.
