JOHOR BARU: A 30-YEAR-OLD mechanic was severely injured after he was slashed and shot in an attack by a group of men early yesterday morning.

Johor Baru (North) deputy police chief Superintendent Beh Eng Lai said during the 12.30am incident, the victim was sitting outside his employer's house in Taman Johor in Tampoi, here.

"Initial investigations revealed that four men suddenly appeared and climbed over the gate of the house and proceeded to assault the victim with a parang.

"The victim tried to seek shelter inside his employer's house, but the suspects gave chase and continued attacking him in the living room."

He said one of the suspects was believed to have shot the victim twice while inside the house.

Upon hearing gunshots, the victim's employer rushed to look for the victim.

"The employer found the victim lying in the living room and alerted the police.

"We found two bullet casings at the crime scene and recovered fingerprints at the gate, which we believe belonged to the suspects. However, no weapons were recovered at the scene."

He said the victim, who was in critical condition, was brought to the Intensive Care Unit at Sultanah Aminah Hospital.

Two men in their 30s were arrested several hours later at the city centre after the police mounted a manhunt. Two other suspects are still being hunted by the police.

"The police are urging those with information to step forward to assist in the investigation."
