Art School Student Scam ??
shared by Jaycee Cheah
I had an encounter a few months ago from a couple of "students" claiming "charity" for their so called art academy, this was in KL, just opposite lot 10... Right next to monorail station escalator. Me and my tourist friend was stopped and they make small conversation. "hi, welcome to malaysia, are you Korean...etcetc"
They approach potential "tourist" and tell u their sob story about struggling in a art school, they need to sell keychains/magnets for 10 to 30 myr to support their cause.
They used a overly photocopied form over and over again that they use to write your details down, the details on the paper is unclear and state the amount to donate as the "minimum amount" for their cause. I saw some names in their list with the minimum payments of 30myr!!
When I asked what school they were with, they just said "art school in KL" and divert topic! They would not explain entirely and properly.
It was a rip off cuz they approached us to donate a minimum amount and one of the girls threw a fit when my tourist friend didnt want to donate the minimum amount, instead she said "eeyyer why you don't want to help me... Grumbles!" anyway, both of us gave her rm5 just to shut her up and walked away. Just felt cheated and annoyed!
Both of us found that appalling as I was a Malaysian, seeing what the youth of today was doing to our tourists friends makes me feel utterly disgusted!
Beware, they look like artistic dressed up students, chinese (unfortunately) they come occasionally cause I noticed them on several occasions. I avoided that path nowadays because I do not want to get conned again!
