Residents of Kota Kemuning/Bukit Rimau, BEWARE

Wednesday, 13th February 2013 @ 6.35 pm

Potential thief on the prowl. I was walking on a pavement by the road when a Chinese man(in a black polo t-shirt and jeans, thin and slightly gaunt-looking) on a motorcycle came and stopped beside me. He started talking to me in Cantonese, but I couldn't understand, so I asked him to speak in English. He asked me in broken English if I had seen a phone on the ground as his friend had lost it. I said no,and he then asked me if I had any Nokia or Sony Ericsson phone with me (it should have occured to me then that his friend could not have had a phone with two brands, unless he had two phones and lost both, which is highly unlikely)

Then he asked me to show my phone to prove it was not his friend's. By now I was a bit wary,so I took a step back and took my phone out and put it out of his reach and showed it to him (though in hindsight I should not have even done that). I kept my phone and he started asking me to show a reciept to prove that it was mine. I just asked 'What reciept?' and he started saying something else about using my phone for some ridiculous reason and said he would return it. I said no,and he asked if I could go onto the road next to his motorbike and again I refused. Then he went back to asking if he could use my phone, and I said 'Sorry,no' and walked away. He then just rode off on his motorcycle.

Although he might have been telling the truth,it is better to be safe than sorry. Please be careful when you are out walking and if anyone asks to show your phone, don't. Stay safe everyone.
