CHERAS: A routine breakfast stop at his in-laws turned into a harrowing experience for James Lam and his family.
The family of four walked into a robbery and were themselves robbed of RM50,000 in Taman Midah on Tuesday.
They had gone to his in-laws' house next door as they do every morning.
“At 7am, I entered the house as usual through an adjoining door when I noticed a white car parked in front of the gate. But I did not suspect anything,” said Lam, 44, who works in advertising.
As he entered the house with his wife and son, one of the robbers hiding behind the door suddenly grabbed them and warned them not to shout.
“He told us that they only wanted our valuables and then took us upstairs to where my wife's parents and brother were being held.
“They were dressed in black from head to toe and holding parang. They wore black jackets, black gloves, and black ski masks. All we could see were their eyes,” said Lam.
At the same time, he said he was worried about his five-year-old son who was with them. His younger son, two, was asleep in his room throughout the incident.
Lam said after robbing his in-laws, the robbers also ransacked his bedroom, taking with them cash, ten watches, four mobile telephones and jewellery.
