KUANTAN: A 15-year-old girl and her mother who had suffered a stroke, endured hours of not knowing how their situation would turn out when a man hijacked the car they were in.
During the 3pm incident two days ago, Nor Rafidah Abdul Rasol and her
53-year-old mother Hamiah Abd Majid were waiting for her father Abdul
Rasol Mohd Tahir, 50, in their Honda Civic near a shopping complex at
Jalan Tun Ismail here when a man entered the car and sat behind the
wheel.Rafidah said during the terror ride, the man who donned sunglasses and who spoke with a heavy Terengganu accent, nonchalantly engaged them in small talk.
"At first I thought he was my father's friend.
"I even thought he was joking when he asked us to leave the car.
"Fear sunk in when he started driving and my father was nowhere in sight.
"He took away my handphone and began to chatting with us as though he was talking to friends," Nor Rafidah said at their family home in Taman Balok Permai, Balok here yesterday.
She added that the man asked them what they they doing at the shopping complex, their background, Hamiah's condition and her father's whereabouts.
Halfway through the ride, a white car that had been driving ahead of them stopped as their car came to a halt near a housing area.
"The driver of the white car, who was also wearing sunglasses, came out and approached us.
"He then lifted my mother out of the car and asked me to come out.
"He put my mother down by the side of the road and handed me RM50 before they drove off in both cars," Nor Rafidah said, adding that a passer-by later came to their aid.
Rasol, who was with his daughter as she related her ordeal, said what was most important was the safety of his wife and daughter.
Hamiah and Nor Rafidah were waiting in the car with the engine running while he shopped for a mobile phone battery.
When he returned and found the car and his family members missing, he lodged a report at the district police headquarters.
The suspects are believed to be in their 30s and police are still investigating the matter.
