JOHOR BARU: A 19-YEAR-OLD security guard died after he was slashed on the head by a group of men early yesterday morning.
In the 4.30am incident in Taman Bukit Indah, here, the deceased was on duty in his guard post, when a 32-year-old friend came to meet him for a chat.
A black Perodua Myvi then arrived at the scene and a group of men alighted from the vehicle.
The men, donning masks and armed with parang, allegedly launched an attack against the two.
The deceased had then run across the road.
He was repeatedly slashed on the head and body. He died at the scene.
One of the assailants went after the deceased's friend, who ran into the housing estate.
The victim fell and was slashed on the back and hand before the assailants fled the scene.
The victim was rushed to hospital.
He was warded in the intensive care unit.
The deceased's 34-year-old cousin, who wished to remain anonymous, claimed that the deceased had told family members about stopping a black Myvi in the housing estate two days ago.
"My cousin, who used to work at a tyre shop, started working as a security guard about a month ago.
"He was always hardworking and seemed happy to have found a second job.
"He did mention that a black Myvi appeared to be stalking the neighbourhood and he had talked to the driver.
"I do not know if it is a coincidence or whether it had any connection to the incident."
Nusajaya police chief Superintendent Noor Hashim Mohamad confirmed the incident, but withheld the names of the deceased and the victim.
Noor Hashim said there were five or six suspects in the case, but police had yet to make any arrest.
"We are still trying to establish a motive for the killing."
