PETALING JAYA: A 53-year-old man hid in a kitchen cabinet when policemen raided a condominium unit here last week to look for a suspect who had rammed into a police car and two other vehicles while fleeing from the scene of a house break-in in early April.
The man is the father of one of two men, in their 30s, who were caught red-handed while breaking into the house at Jalan SS17/5C in Subang Jaya on April 6.
Subang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Yahaya Ramli said the getaway driver rammed into a patrol car and two other vehicles while speeding off from the scene. He said police tracked the driver to a condominium along Jalan PJS 1/52 here at around 6pm on May 30.
“We found the man hiding in a kitchen cabinet,” he told a press conference at the Subang Jaya police headquarters yesterday.
He said the suspect then led police to a parking lot where they found a Toyota Vios that was reported stolen at Brickfields early this year.
“The man had no criminal record but tested positive for drug abuse,” said ACP Yahaya, adding that the police had linked the father-and-son team and their accomplice to two robberies in Subang Jaya.
They are believed to have been involved in house break-ins in neighbouring districts as well. In a separate case, police nabbed two men and seized a Colt MK-IV semi-automatic pistol that was hidden in a Toyota Harrier that was reported stolen on May 25.
“After questioning the suspects, we made another check on the car on May 29 and found the pistol hidden in a blue bag behind the car radio, along with a magazine and 27 live bullets.”
He said police believed the suspects were involved in several cases of vehicle theft and robbery.
“Both suspects have been remanded until Thursday and will be handed over to the Dang Wangi police as the Toyota Harrier was reported stolen there,” said ACP Yahaya.
Meanwhile, the police are looking for Leong Weng Loon, 34, to help in investigations.
Leong’s last known address is No. 1, Jalan Mas 18, Taman Cheras Mas, Kuala Lumpur.
Those with information can contact the police hotline at 03-2052 9999 or call at the nearest police station.
