MUAR, June 7 A ticket seller for the Muar-Bengkalis ferry service was shot dead from point blank range at a children’s playground in Taman Sri Temiang, Jalan Salleh here last night.

Muar acting police chief Supt Shahadan Jaafar said the body of Tan Chai Heng, 51, who was shot in the face, was found just about 30 metres from his house in the housing estate.

“Based on the injury below his right eye, we believe the victim was shot with a pistol from close range before his body was discovered by a neighbour at 9pm.

“Police believe he was shot by someone he knew and we also found a spent cartridge at the scene,” he told reporters here today.

Shahadan said this was the first murder case involving a firearm in the district in five years.

A neighbour of the victim who only wanted to be identified as Muhammad, 48,

said when he passed by the area he saw the victim lying sprawled there and immediately contacted the police.

“Prior to this, I had often seen the victim going for a stroll in the playground from around 7.30pm to 8pm,” he said.

The victim’s body was sent to the Sultanah Fatimah Specialist Hospital here.
