Several hurt at police station after scrap dealers get into brawl

BENTONG: Two groups of scrap metal traders brawled inside the Karak police station, forcing policemen to draw out their firearms to stop the fight.
The policemen had to do so after the situation got tense and the groups started to attack each other. At least one person was seriously injured and was rushed to Hospital Kuala Lumpur for treatment.
Several others suffered minor injuries and received outpa- tient treatment.
Sources said the incident occurred at about 6.30pm yesterday when a group of about 15 men accused two others from Mentakab of stealing scrap metal from their outlet.
The duo drove off in their lorry but the group gave chase in their cars and intercepted the lorry before beating them up.
Police from the nearby Telemong police station were alerted and rushed to the scene. All were then taken to the Karak police station for questioning.
The two injured men contacted their friends and soon 30 men arrived in five cars from Mentakab, leading to a confrontation inside the police station.
Bentong OCPD Supt Mansor Mohd Nor confirmed the incident, adding that he was handling the investigation.
