Carjacked near Tropicana

25/8/13

posted by Leeyiung Chou

After putting a ten-dollar bill into my wallet, i grabbed my groceries and walked towards my car. It was a Sunday afternoon (to be exact, Aug 24, around 1pm), shoppers from the neighbourhood gather here to run their weekly errands. The popularity of the grocery store (initials: JG, near tropicana golf club) could be seen from the number of cars parked in front of it. Some customers including me had to leave our cars by the curb below the slope because the designated parking lots were occupied.

I opened the passenger's car door and before I could chuck anything into the car, someone held both of my arms. I immediately turned around and asked " buat apa?" or what do you want. It was a fairly plump Malay fellow in his 30s who asked me to pay him money. "for what?" i asked. Another male, Indian, dressed up smartly with a white long sleeved shirt and a pair of black pants came walking towards us while holding a walkie talkie. He said "you parking sini perlu bayar!" if you parked your car here, you have to pay us. It did not make any sense to me because every other time I parked my car there, i never had to pay any money to anyone and the malay fellow was still grabbing my arm. And then I had the notion that he was trying to push me into the car.

Within a split second of thought, I shouted help repeatedly at the top of my lungs. It was the freakiest moment of my life. While resisting and doing anything I could to stop them from pushing me into the car including punching the fat guy in front of me, one of them grabbed my neck. While the fight was going on, I heard people shouting and cars honking (thanks people!). Before the other shoppers could run over and help, the robbers cum potential kidnappers snatched the car key, pushed me away and quickly hopped into the car. And then I saw one of them ignited the engine. Subconsciously, I thought I should stop them from getting away and so I got hold of the car door firmly and prayed that someone could do something, anything. But it was just a meager effort. Three big-sized fellows escaped with my car.

It was a great relief that I was not abducted and that I only got bruises and no major injuries. Before they got away, I noticed there was a light green colored car that was parked right behind my car which disappeared after the whole episode of car snatching incident. I also noticed that this gang of people did not even bother to cover their face. It's either because they did not want to raise any suspicions or they did not expect me to have escaped the attempted kidnapping. It was a well planned out, near perfect activity!

After this incident, I realized that you are on your own when things like this happen to you, many people would just stand there and stare, only a few good samaritans would actually help you even if they do not know you. Before you approach your car, remember to look around and be alert of any suspicious people lurking around. Things like this can happen anywhere, anytime of the day and to anyone. It's very important to stay calm and come up with the best solution using the resources around you. And most importantly, learn some self defense arts, trust me, your limbs could be your only weapons in this kind of situations.

In Subang condo, ban against ‘African’ tenants

The Malay Mail Online 26/8/13

PETALING JAYA, Aug 26 — “African” tenants at a Bandar Sri Subang condominium here have three months to vacate their units after the building’s management slapped an unprecedented occupancy ban on them last week.

The decision came after the majority of Ridzuan Condominium residents voted in an annual general meeting (AGM) held on July 6 against renting their units to foreigners from the continent, whom they allege to have “caused a lot of nuisance”.

The Malay Mail Online sighted a copy of the memo circulated to Ridzuan residents explaining the ban, which has also been making the rounds online through Facebook.

“We refer to the above matter without prejudice and without malice,” the memo dated August 19 started.

“As a result of the decision held in the AGM on 6th July 2013, the majority of the residents voted in the AGM to not letting their units for rental to Africans any more.”

According to the memo, the presence of Africans has created “a lot of nuisance and problems to the community”, which in turn has driven down the property value of units there.

It further asserts that owners have found it difficult to rent out or sell their units to other prospective customers due to the alleged situation.

“It was also resolved during the AGM that any resident who has an African tenant is to cancel the rental and to vacate them from their units within three (3) months from the date of this letter,” it added.

It did not, however, specify the course of action — if any — that would be taken by the management should an owner or African tenant fail to comply.

It was also unclear how they plan to enforce the ban, with the only criterion being “African”.

The circular neglected to specify if this ban will apply along the lines of ethnicity or nationality, nor does it mention who would be the final arbiter should any party dispute the “African” label.

The memo was signed by a Jerry Low Boon Chay, who was named as chairman of Joint Management Body (JMB) of Ridzuan Condominium.

A member of the JMB, who refused to be named, confirmed the authenticity of the memo to The Malay Mail Online through a phone call last week, and admitted to sending the memo to residents on behalf of Low.

During a subsequent visit to the condominium on Saturday, The Malay Mail Online discovered the same memo affixed to a notice board within the grounds of the property.

Ridzuan is a 14-year-old condominium situated near the PJS10 lake park, with units from 590-sq ft; rental starts from RM1,300 a month.

Situated near a number of private tertiary institutions such as Sunway University, Taylor’s University, the Malaysian campus of Monash University, and INTI International University, Ridzuan has been home to mostly Malaysian students since 2002.

None of the aforementioned institutions are within walking distance to the condominium, and students commute via shuttle buses provided by their schools or drive their own cars, contributing to daily traffic congestion around the area.

The condominium is, however, some 15 minutes’ walk away from popular shopping mall Sunway Pyramid and close to the Sunway Mentari business area, which provides students access to entertainment and nightlife.

Property website PropWall has reported that Ridzuan frequently suffers from petty crimes due to lax security, while its previous management had also been embroiled in a recent financial fraud case.

The ban may be the first attempt of its kind reported in Malaysia after years of alleged discrimination and hostility towards the oft-maligned African community, including in mainstream media.

Despite being a continent of 54 countries with diverse and distinct ethnicities, cultures, languages and societies, its migrants are commonly pigeonholed using the “African” catchall, while the derogatory label “Awang Hitam” (literally, Black Fellow) is also used by Malay-language dailies in reference to their dominant skin colour.

The negative perception towards African migrants in Malaysia is believed to stem from the frequency of cases of drug smuggling, financial scams, frauds and sex crimes reportedly involving the group.

But it is also not a local stereotype. The ubiquity of online confidence tricks involving Nigerians, in particular, saw the global law enforcement community dub such swindles as the “Nigerian 419 scam”, with 419 being a reference to the country’s Criminal Code for fraud.

Malaysia’s Immigration Department reported that a total of 79,352 Africans entered the country last year.

The department also issued 25,467 student visas to Africans in 2012 to study in public or private institutions.

Snatch Thieves are Cops!

Despite lodging a police report on the matter on July 3, B Saravanan claims that the police have yet to take action against the errant police officers.

PETALING JAYA: A lorry driver lodged a police report last month claiming that one of the snatch thieves he caught red handed was none other than a police officer.

In the report lodged at the Petaling Jaya district police headquarters on July 3, B Saravanan, 27, said that he was going out to lunch outside his office at Taman Mayang Jaya on that day, when he saw two men on a motorcycle trying to snatch a gold necklace from a foreign national.

“It was about 12 pm. I was going for lunch when I saw the thieves on a Yamaha LC bike attempting to snatch a necklace from an Indonesian lady.

“I immediately drove to the scene and rammed my car on their motorcycle, causing the duo to fall on the street,” said Saravanan.

He said that he got down from his car to face the thieves, getting into a scuffle with them. Unfortunately, the perpetrators overwhelmed him and even manage to snatch his gold chain.

Adding that he tried his level best to apprehend them, Saravanan decided to back off as one started throwing stones at his car while the other threatened him with a knife.

Saravanan subsequently called up the police, who later arrived at the area to take pictures of the crime scene.

Suspects turn out to be policemen

“At 1pm, one Corporal Zamrus called me up to Kelana Jaya police station, asking my assistance to identify the thieves, which I did about three hours later.

“I managed to identify both men during the identification parade. To my shock, Zamrus told me that one of the suspects was a police officer,” alleged Saravanan in the report.

When contacted today Saravanan said that both suspects were indeed police officers. Saravanan further claimed that the investigating officer, known as Inspector Hasbullah, tried to talk him out of lodging a police report.

“I saw them both walking in and out of the Kelana Jaya police station together. So when I got to know that the suspects were officers from the same station, I decided to lodge the report at the PJ police headquarters instead,” said Saravanan.

He added that he was called to the Kelana Jaya police station for a second time on July 19 for another identification parade.

“I identified them again but after that I received no information from the Kelana Jaya police station on the status of the investigation,” said Saravanan.

However FMT learned today evening that Saravanan has been asked to be present at the Kelana Jaya police station to give a statement later tonight.

No comment from district chief

A police source meanwhile told FMT that he has yet to receive any updates regarding the status of the two police officers.

“I am not sure if they have been transferred to another desk or department or they have been suspended from the force. They are attached to a different police station thus I did not get any updates regarding their status,” the source said.

Meanwhile, Petaling Jaya district police chief, Arjunaidi Mohamed when contacted refused to comment on the matter.

“You have to check with the Selangor police headquarters. I can’t comment on this,” he said briefly.

Malaysian restaurant hires armed guard

A series of armed robberies and high profile shootings in Malaysia has caused many people across the country to turn to self-protection.
Last month, an anti-crime activist and a prominent banker were shot within the same week and there is a growing anger that the government has not been able to reduce crime.
One seafood restaurant in Kuala Lumpur has even hired an armed guard to patrol outside, as Jennifer Pak reports.

Every time see this kind of news in FB, but didn't expect it will happen to my own family,

14th August 2013, around 3.45pm, my mom, the one who driving along the CONNAUGHT highway alone,as claimed by her just pass by the pass way bridge, not far from MCD or GIANT / outside Connaught pasar malam, suddenly a big stone hits her wind screen and blew off a big hole in front, luckily my mom wearing sunglasses while the stone chips hit her face and it messed all over the car. I couldnt imagine what happen if the stone hots her eyes, And luckily her response are not in lost control when the things happened. When she called me through the phone, i can heard her voice of frighten and scare but no choice have to drive slowly back home to make a further decision. She is not hurt in physically, but mentally annoyed. We do think of making a police report, but due to our previous 2 times of bad experience of the police officer attitude when taking our report (they treated us like we are the criminal), so we decided not to launch the report as you and I would know its a pretty useless action. This share is just to let more people know there are some physco out there in Connaught. I assumed it is lucky to have windscreen slightly tinted whereby our country officer actually takes that as a offenses or a "chances", to me, if we do not protect ourself, who will? Please be careful. — at Taman Connaught.

'Agent wants Kidney for Passport'

By NICHOLAS CHENG
nicholascheng@thestar.com.my

PETALING JAYA: A foreign maid has alleged that her agent is demanding RM6,500 or one of her kidneys in exchange for her passport to return home.

P. Jayadevi from Madurai in India is trying to go home after receiving news that her husband is ill but is stuck in Malaysia after the agent went missing with her passport and other travel documents.

“I have begged him to let me go home but he said if I want my passport I must pay RM6,500. He said if I could not find the money, I must sell my kidney to him,” said the 47-year-old mother of three.

Jayadevi also accused the agent of hitting her on several occasions with a belt and withholding her RM2,400 salary.

“He said he would use the money to get a work permit for me but I have been told that it is a fake.

“He has also threatened me, saying that he would push me in front of a train or sell me as a prostitute if I keep asking about my pay,” she said.

Fortunately for her, she was able to contact her family who brought her case to the human rights group, Malaysia Global Rescue Humanity.

Representatives of the group lodged a police report on her behalf at the Sea Park police station here yesterday.

The group’s president, T. Kamalanathan, said the agent, also an Indian national, was well-known for his human trafficking activities and Jayadevi had saved herself by speaking out.

“I have come across several cases involving this man where employees were victimised,” he said, adding that Jayadevi has worked in five different homes since arriving here on Feb 2 and was not paid.

Deputy Petaling Jaya OCPD Supt Fadil Marsus said Jayadevi would be taken to a hospital for treatment while the case was being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code.

Meanwhile, a commotion broke out yesterday at the house where Jayadevi was working when the NGO escorted her to the police station.

Her employer argued that they needed her to stay and take care of an ill member of the family, while Kamalanathan chided the employer for hiring Jayadevi from a questionable source.

Three rape Vietnamese worker after robberies

NST 18/8/13

KOTA TINGGI: A Vietnamese woman was abducted and raped by three men impersonating policemen, after they robbed 26 foreign workers at their hostels on Friday night.

Kota Tinggi police chief Superintendent Mohd Nor Rasid said the incident happened at two different locations.

He said the suspects went to the hostel for female foreign workers in Taman Kota Batu 2 here at 10.45pm.

"They demanded the occupants open the door, but the occupants refused to do so."

Mohd Nor said the suspects then became aggressive and broke down the steel gate and the hostel's back door.

"They ordered the women at the hostel to hand over their valuables before proceeding to take the victim and force her into a car."

The victim said that she was brought to a nearby area where she was raped.

The victim was then freed by the suspects at Jalan Air Terjun, about 200 metres from the hostel.

Mohd Nor said the suspects had earlier gone to a hostel housing male foreign workers at Jalan Belinjau in Taman Kota Jaya at 10.15pm and robbed the occupants.

The distance between the two locations is about two kilometres.

"They were pretending to carry out an inspection at the hostel.

"Eleven Nepalese men were ordered to hand over their cash, valuables and mobile phones to the suspects."

He said the operations manager of the factory where the workers were employed had received a call over the incident and alerted the police.

He said the police have mounted a manhunt for the suspects and are urging those with information on the case to come forward to assist in the investigation.

The case is being investigated under Section 395/397 and Section 376 of the Penal Code.

Photo: Fireworks scare in Wangsa Maju

Residents of Taman Sri Rampai in Wangsa Maju were shocked when a couple of fireworks stalls exploded early in the morning on August 14.

The incident, which was said to have occurred near the National Registration Department (JPN) office along Jalan 34/26 after 2am, was recorded by someone who happened to be passing the area at the time.

The four and a half minute video went viral on the Internet, with many eyewitnesses commenting on the video.

Police officers from the Wangsa Maju police station said the incident was currently being investigated, although they could not confirm the cause.

Based on comments from people who witnessed the incident, they claimed that a group on eight motorcycles had allegedly started a fire at the stalls, setting off all the fireworks.

A spokesman from the Setapak Fire and Rescue Deparment confirmed the incident but could not provide further details.

Fed up of reminding the public not to litter, a few quirky road signs have been spotted in Pahang and Terengganu with a more sarcastic message.

The signs also did not mention if one would be slapped with a hefty fine if they were caught red-handed for littering.

Facebook user Ardi Herman Mohd Mardzi posted a photo of a sign that said “Tak rasa bersalah ke? Buang sampah dari kenderaan” (Don’t you feel guilty throwing rubbish out from your car?)

Ardi felt it was a good way of reminding road-users not to litter and he hopes that the effort made by the Dungun City Council will bear fruit.

A similar photo was also posted by Blogger Aainaa-Nadirah who spotted the sign board by the Public Works Department (JKR) while travelling in Kuantan, Pahang.

However some felt the move may not be the right way to address the problem.

“If you are taught from young not to throw rubbish out of the car, then you won’t, but some parents just do not care and allow their children to do so even though it is wrong,” said another Facebook user Mohd Firdaus Ekram.

UPDATED Police remand Parents who Brutally caned Daughter

The Star 17/8/13

IPOH: The parents of a five-year-old girl, who is on life support after being brutally caned, have been remanded for three days.

On Saturday, Magistrate Rahimah Rahim issued the three-day remand order ending Monday at the magistrate's court here.

Confirming that police had obtained a three-day remand order against the 30-year-old mother and 39-year-old father, Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm Sum Chang Keong said the case was being investigated as causing grievous hurt under Section 325 of the Penal Code.

It was reported that the girl's father had taken her to the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital here after she collapsed from high fever on Thursday.

She had visible cane marks, bruises and lacerations all over her body and head.

The girl's condition prompted a doctor to make a report to the police at the hospital police beat, leading to the arrest of the couple at their home in Taman Wang, Menglembu here, the next day.

It is believed that the mother had caned the girl, said to be a special needs child, over her "mischievous" behaviour.

Neighbours at the couple's home remained tight-lipped when approached by The Star.

They, however, revealed that the girl was a quiet child.

"I've heard from neighbours that the girl often hurts herself by hitting her own head against the wall.

"But I've never seen it with my own eyes," one neighbour claimed.

When contacted, state Women Development, Family, Community Welfare and National Integration committee chairman Datuk Rusnah Kassim said the couple's other son and daughter, aged seven and two, had been taken into the care of the state Welfare Department.

"They are currently under welfare protection.

"Both children have been placed at a children's shelter and are doing well.
"However, they appear to be traumatised over the incident," she said.

Online Love Scam Ring Busted

KUALA LUMPUR: A syndicate that specialises in online love scams couldn’t charm its way out when police raided an apartment in Bukit Mandarin, Cheras.

Police confiscated 10 bank cards, six passbooks believed to be from previous scams, and 1kg of methamphetamine stashed in one of the suspects’ car.

Four notebook computers and six mobile phones were also recovered during the operation at 10.30am on Thursday.

Three Nigerian men, another from Lesotho and Malaysian women aged 29 to 32 were arrested.

Their modus operandi involves gaining the trust of females online, and then asking them to bank in money to a Malaysian woman’s account in order to pay for the “tax” on a parcel that they claim has been detained by the Malaysian Customs.

The conmen would say the parcel contains lots of cash, and would then promise the girls a share of the cash as a reward.

Investigations into the syndicate began in April after a 21-year-old college student was duped of RM1,630.

She had reportedly befriended a British man named Richard Kickme on Facebook in January and fallen in love with the online Casanova.

“On April 19, one of the suspects contacted the victim, saying he was planning to visit her.

“He called her again the next day, claiming he had arrived but was held up at the airport for bringing in a parcel containing US$48,000 (RM135,000).

“He said he would give her some of the money if she banked in the amount, which she did the same day,” said Cheras OCPD ACP Mohan Singh, adding that she lodged a police report after the man did not show up.

ACP Mohan said commercial crime officers were studying the bank cards and passbooks to help solve other similar cases.

Thieves torch house before escaping with loot

The Star 17/8/13

JOHOR BARU: A group of thieves set a house on fire at Taman Sri Putri in Skudai in a bid to eliminate any trace of evidence.

It is learnt that they carted away over RM90,000 in jewellery and cash that were kept in the house before setting it on fire at about 4pm on Thursday.

Retiree Poh Qing Fei, 60, said that he, his ex-wife and son were not at home when the thieves struck.

“I was out of town, visiting my brother in Muar and my ex-wife was out shopping at that time,” he said, adding that his son was at work.

Poh said he was informed of the incident yesterday by his younger brother, who lived nearby.

“When I arrived home, I was shocked to see the inside of my house almost completely burnt.’

“Following inspection, we realised that our jewellery worth about RM50,000 were stolen,” he said.

Johor Baru North deputy OCPD Supt Beh Eng Lai said police were investigating the case.

“We believe that the thieves had burnt the house just to cover up their act,” he said.

Supt Beh said the case had been classified as burglary, besides causing mischief by fire or explosive substance with intent to destroy a house under the Penal Code.

Latin American burglary suspects held after high-speed chase

The Star 17/8/13

SHAH ALAM: Two Latin Americans were arrested by police on suspicion of being involved in burglary less than two months after entering the country.

Acting Selangor police chief Deputy Comm Datuk A. Thaiveegan said the two men, aged 31 and 36, entered the country in July on tourist visas.

He said a patrol unit in Putra Heights noticed three men in a Honda MPV behaving suspiciously on Aug 14.

“As police officers approached the car to investigate, they sped off, leading to a high-speed chase,” DCP Thaiveegan told reporters at a press conference.

The 30-minute pursuit on an expressway saw the burglars ramming through a toll booth barrier.

The suspects ditched their car in Section 28, Shah Alam, before fleeing on foot, but two of the suspects were caught while the third man is still at large.

DCP Thaiveegan said the suspects had used fake number plates on their rented vehicle.

“We found a number of break-in tools like screwdrivers as well as other paraphernalia like gloves and caps,” he said, adding that the suspects would be remanded until tomorrow.

DCP Thaiveegan also said that a gang of robbers linked to a robbery in July had been arrested.

Five suspects, aged between 20 and 27, were arrested separately in Kelana Jaya and Teluk Panglima Garang on Thursday, and would be remanded until next Wednesday.

“They have no criminal records, but we have evidence linking them to the case,” he said.

During the July 28 incident in Banting, five men robbed a home of valuables worth RM80,000.

Ex-debt collector Stabbed to Death

MALACCA: A former debt collector was stabbed to death by an agent of a loan shark following a heated argument over outstanding collections.

Chong Piang Fong, 49, attempted to flee from his assailant but succumbed to a fatal stab on the left side of his chest at a house in Taman Malim Jaya, Malim here yesterday morning.

Neighbours alerted the police who found the victim lying face down covered in a pool of blood.

It is learnt that Chong had given up his job as a debt collector as he wanted to venture into business. Apparently, he had worked previously with another loan shark and the assailant wanted to discuss about the outstanding amounts collected from debtors which was purportedly withheld by Chong.

Their discussion turned into a fiery row and the assailant used a sharp weapon to stab him several times. Police believed a kitchen knife was used to stab the victim but had yet to recover the murder weapon.

State Deputy CID Chief Superintendent P.R. Gunarajan said the assailant had arrived at the house about an hour early to demand for the outstanding cash.

Supt Gunarajan said police had traced the 25-year-old suspect who was at a friend’s house in Kampung Lapan, Tengkera through the help of a witness.

Supt Gunarajan said police also detained three other men aged between 25 and 35 to help facilitate the probe.

“All four were under the influence of drugs,” he said, adding that the prime suspect was also found to have previous criminal records relating to drug offences and had served several prison terms in Perak several years ago.

"We have lodged a police report SG PETANI/000971/13 against Ganesh (IC no 840409-08-5815) and Ranjini (IC no 931112-02-5954) at Sungai petani on 9th jan' 2013.

We met Ganesh and Ranjini in our Church at Taman Batik, Sungai Petani during December, 2012. Since Ganesh was handicapped and they were struggling without food & shelter, out of sympathy we helped them and allowed them to stay in our house for a short period. After one day when we went to drop our son in School they stole our valuables (jewelry: ~ 240 grams; Cameras: Canon & Sony; Silver Anklets; Ladies wrist watch: Alba; Mobile: Sony Ericson), broke the gate and escaped using our car. They left our car in Ipoh and informed us after one week. With the help of police we got back our car from Ipoh police station.

We have the photos of the stolen items and the receipt for the new camera (Canon A810) that we purchased 3 months ago.

I have attached the photo of the couple (Ganesh and Ranjini) who robbed us, the Sungai Petani police report, the new Camera receipt, list of stolen items with description, details of the theft incident as well as the information I've collected about the couple. I have attached those emails that my husband and I received from police Bin (DCP) who doesn't seem to be the right person. At last were able to contact the right police. From Bukit Aman they already informed us that its unlikely to recover our stolen things. Still we are hoping to get a favorable reply for Bukit Aman."

Beggar turn Hostile - Kelana Jaya

16/8/13

I was waiting for my parents to pick me up at Kwongsi food court (not sure what's their current restaurant's name), opposite Kelana Jaya LRT Station around 6pm. Was having a black makeup box with me and i placed it on the floor while waiting. An Indian middle aged man approached me, about 160cm, wearing clean red & white stripes polo, slacks and black shoes. He "asked politely" in english if i can give him any money, he said he's extremely hungry and god will bless me. I refused and remained silence.

What shocked me was what he said next,
"Are there any money in that box? I can grab and run away with it. No offense, i'm just being honest! I think there's money in it."

I definitely feel threatened and was like wtf? I told him it's my makeup box. I grabbed my box and walked over to the road side pasembur rojak. (I might lose my mind here, should have walked back to 7-11.) I desperately told the rojak stall's uncle bout what happened. Apparently they just gave him some rojak a while ago. They kindly offered me to sit at their stall and wait for my car.

Later on the same Indian man bugged the roasted duck's auntie along the road. He stood there for about 10 minutes. Luckily one of the rojak stall's worker helped out and shoo him away.

Deputy Klang Utara police chief Superintendent Jani Ahmad said a friend of the victim said he was chatting with Sambhath and a few others friends when two men on a red Yamaha 125Z motorcycle pulled up.

“The motorcyclists were wearing black long-sleeved jackets and helmets with dark visors. The pillion rider got off the machine, pulled out a gun and fired a few shots at the group.”

The group ran helter-skelter to save themselves but Sambhath was hit from a distance of about two to three metres.

Selangor deputy Criminal Investigation Department chief Assistant Commissioner Rusdi Mohd Isa said police wereare currently checking to see if there was any closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera footage in the area.

S. Prabhakaran, 25, the younger brother of the victim, said Sambhath had worked hard to provide for the family with his five-year-old through his lorry rental businessservice.

“He was my only sibling andso we were very close. My parents and I were dependent on him. Now, we will have to think of a way to continue his business,” he said at the victim’s home in Taman Klang Utama.

In Kajang, a 16-year-old teenager girl was slashed to death by her uncle in a temple in Taman Sri Reko.

The victim was washing dishes with her aunt at their house in Taman Sri Reko at 11.30am when her uncle came into the kitchen and pulled her outside the house.

She was held at knifepoint by the uncle and was dragged to a temple beside their house. At the temple, the unclehe slit Yogiswari’s throat and then went to a room there where he tried to take his own life by slitting his own throat.

Awareness Saved the Day....Tailed by Biker Gang near Sec 4 PJ

Hi I would like to share an incident which happened to me yesterday night (15th August 2013, 10.20pm). I reside in PJ section 4. When I drove pass Kanna Curry House I realised theres a motorcycle following me from behind..couldnt see the number plate, but I could see theres a 'P' sticker beside the number plate. Somehow from my instinct he looked kinda suspicious so I continued driving until I turned into the main road Jalan Tandang, there were another 2 motorcycle parked at the roadside..I drove normally until i realised the first motorcycle 'teamed up' with the another 2 motorcycle and followed me from behind..I realised something is extremely wrong..I decided to try my luck and test whether were they really following me or what by making 3 rounds at the roundabout (near Topmark Toyota)..to my surprise..the 3 motorcycle followed me throughout the 3 rounds of roundabout..by then i realised it a do or die situation..I spam on my accelerator paddle and sped to the section 8 police station and kept honking..by the time i reached the police station the 3 motorcycle dispersed..

To all the drivers out there..pls do pay attention to your surroundings..its better to be safe than sorry..

Gun pointed at you, what will you do?

by  P Ramani on Free Malaysia Today
August 15, 2013

Security experts provide various suggestions but it will depend on how we react and manage the risk.

PETALING JAYA: What would your reaction be if a gun was aimed at you? Most would say they will panic and freeze. Others who are daring will try to pull Hollywood stunts to evade and make an escape.
Those with martial arts background may retaliate with gun disarming techniques. The worst that could happen is get shot and killed!

Security experts however, feel that the best defense is to be vigilant at all times when you are out of your house.

“Make a habit of being vigilant at all times and this helps especially when a victim receives constant threat from unknown person,” said DKS Security CEO Sirajudin Y Mohd Maidin.

The security expert went further to explain by illustrating the ‘Crime Triangle’ elements, namely Opportunity, Ability and Desire.

He says that ‘opportunity’ element can be controlled where else the other two elements are not possible to control.

“For example, when you park your car outside your house, there is a tendency for car hijackers to steal the car and it’s exposed for an opportunity for crime to take place,” he said.

Sirajudin also stated that the ‘ability’ element refers to the skills and gadgets used by criminals to carry out an activity and the ‘desire’ element refers to the greed and intention to commit a crime.

“Risk is all around us. But one has to take the precautionary measures to handle any adverse situation,” he added

Looking into the pattern of shootings and killings lately, he suggested that a video recorder be installed in the car as it can help as a deterrent.

“The video recorder will be able to record any movement adjacent to the car. It can be purchased within RM150,” said the security expert.

For those in the high risk group such as VIPs, businessmen and goldsmiths, he suggests to hire personal bodyguards experienced with close protection techniques and drivers with defensive as well as offensive driving techniques.

Bullet proof vest

Meanwhile, another security expert and CEO of Golden Eagle Security K Manogharan stated that it was not easy at times to sense and identify your threat.
“When someone is getting a threat or involved in high risk business, they should hire a personal bodyguard to protect them,” he said

He also added that if a person was under heavy threat and risk, he should minimise appearing in public until he feels safe to resume usual activity.

Lion Sun Security partner Nor Rafeah Abd Sani also added that perhaps it’s time for businessmen or high risk professionals to wear bullet proof vest and fix bullet proof car screen to minimise risk.

Nevertheless, a former senior commando said that public should not panic with the recent shooting incidents.

“Nobody is going to go around shooting people at will, unless you are in the target group (hit list) where someone has a score to settle with you,” said the former commando.

But he does agree that people should be more vigilant and be wary of bikers with full faced helmets as 90% of shootings are carried out using this modus operandi.

“And if you are on the run, do not do so in a straight line but rather zig-zag between pillars, static vehicles or other objects,” he added.

In contrast, MVD International Managing Consultant for Security and Investigation and former Klang OCPD Aziz Ariarasa Abdullah stated that shooting a victim in public is a tricky situation.

“Someone can even shoot from behind and it’s difficult to escape from gun shots,” said Aziz.

“The most important factor is to look into the past history of victims. And the police should conduct a thorough investigation to resolve these cases,” said Aziz.
